Hi everyone I need some help here. I have finally decided that I need to use Heavy gauge strings because of the music that I play. I want to know if anyone has experimented or even found strings other than Dingwall that fit the damn thing. I am looking for the heavy gauge range (5 string) which starts at 50+ and higher. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I play in Drop D with the D dropped to a C so the strings are loose. I did get lucky and did find some at a Local Long and Maquaid. The strings were made by XL that were super long with gauge sizes .045, .065, .085, .105 which are .01 larger on the Low End. The little extra thickness does improve the tension. The only thing was that they do not sell a B that long, WHICH is alright because I only use it as an anchor. I did get the guy at Long and Maquiad to source me out some more sets that would fit and I will post the strings sizes once we experiment.

Fodera make their Diamond strings in an extra-long scale to fit 36" scale basses, they might fit and probably do a heavy gauge set. I have a set of normal scale ones at home, will try them on my ABII soon and see if the length is at least right. EG
