congrats... i feel the seams on the back of my super j and abII necks, but nothing that is distracting... unfortunately those other basses on the wall will not be getting played much anymore. soon you'll only have dingwalls hanging there. i'm down to one 'other' bass, as i've been slowly selling them off. i don't even get gas for anything else except dingwalls now....

hah yeah i know. its completely ridicilous how much better the dingie is than anything else i've tried. keeping the ric and zon because of their distinct character, but i dont see myself buying anything else than more dingies now, hah

Short review after a days ownership Things i would change if i could: The strings: Too much friction in nickels (or whatever these are made of, i'm used to elixirs), until they've been played so long they are starting to lose their tone. Does sound exellent, just doesnt feel right for me. The pickups: Small detail really, but i never 100% familiarized with angled pickups, playing wise. i'd actually prefer if they were "built on" on the top, so they can stay at the same angle, but still provide a thumb rest which is parallell with the strings. Also, i might change the bridge pup for the new Mach, as i'd like a bit more lo mid growl. edit: the volume balance inbetween pups are also a bit weird, but i understood thats more or less gone with the mach? The neck joint: looks a bit "toy-ish", and feels a bit strange, more spacing than i'm used to in the joint. also, i'd rather have the fingerboard cut straight of and have no higher frets on the lower strings. I realize it might look a bit odd (depends on the do, but i care more for playability, hah), but the fingerboard streches out so much its in the way for double thumping. Electronic covers: I love the "click on/off" covers thats on the Warwicks, and really dont understand why that isnt standard, haha. Any particular reason for this? Also i think i'd rather have full on active electronics, with 3 way eq and zero point on the knobs. But then again there might be lots of goodies available i havent discovered yet! All in all just small details which would put this bass up from a 9,5 to 11 out of 10 points for me, hah. Simply amazing bass, i dont understand how i've come by with my old B strings, haha. Will probably string my moses E-C now, as the B sounds silly in comparison. It feels a bit strange tho, on one side i'm totally gas free ( ) but on the other i just want more Dingwalls!!

funny you mention it, but as much as warwicks take a lot of slack from people, they have incorporated some great ideas. like the click off electronics cover, although dingwall has the magnetic battery cover and this is the only reason you need to access that stuff, imho. warwick also has the click off truss rod cover which is nice considering the warwick truss rod access, the fully adjustable bridge which allows individual string height and overall bridge height, and the adjustable nut. they are super adjustable for minute personalized set-up. but i'll take my dingwalls anyday...

unless there's something i've missed, theres surely some allen wrench screws on the battery cover yeah. its a used bass, so i guess magnetic covers were incorporated later. sounds good!

i can't help it, please no offence, i used to have one too... but look at that 'Ric' in the picture. i can't help but think it looks (granted it's supposed to and fills a specific place in bassdom) but it looks like a primevil tool or club. maybe it's just because it's on the same wall with a dingwall?

i think the headstock looks silly, and obviously it stands out between 4 "modern" all naturals, hah. works wonders for what it does tho, no matter how fat my ab is, it won't sound like a ric!

hah, yeah probably. tuning wise too bought it for something like 60-70 dollars in Lithuania, my first bass. sounds like crap and plays worse, but still got to have it

Roger Rossmeisl was a genius, and Rickenbacker really took a chance with his designs, which were avant-garde and totally original. I miss my '70s Ric to this day (but not enough to get another- that would cut into the Dingwall fund and we can't let that happen!) Mark

The fit is real tight on the B so make sure you open the package and double check the B before paying. As long as the B taper is touching the nut slot, it will stretch into it once at playing tension. [/quote:3ckisdmk] The original prototype FD pickups had an angled end on the shell for this reason. It felt funny so never made it into production. The new Prima Artist pickups have a radiused end. If we ever change the plastic shells we'll likely go with that design, but you'd have to have your body routed for them to fit. My guess is that by that time you'll be used to the feel. As there's no reason to be accessing the electronics cavity in a hurry, we've left that attachment "old school". Thanks for the review. You've brought up some good points.

[/quote:3r8bisr7] Last night I was rehearsing with my Voodoo (discontinued model that had the pickups perpendicular to the strings). While the playing is really no different than the rest of my Dingwalls, the angled top of the pickups on the other Dingwalls, allow for a more natural position of the hand, as an extension of the forearm while anchoring the thump on the top of the pickup (I position my hand a lot like Gary Willis does)

Now that the Herculean Task of assembling Christmas toys is finished, I felt the need to do a little something nice for myself. So, I ordered a fretless SJ5 PJ in a lovely Seafoam Green with Black Pearl guard AND a 5 string Z3 with a flamed Redwood top accented by a carmelized flamed Maple contrasting layer. This is further highlighted by a Ziracote fingerboard, 24 frets, Lee Sklar style bars, Hipshot Extender, And OBP-3. Many, many thanks to Dingwall Sales Lamb and to the Man Himself, Sheldon Dingwall for all their help with the details. Now, if I can only speed up time......
