Hey everybody,
I'm probably going to step in it big time here, but here goes anyway.
I just read through the whole Ebay watch thread. It was an education in how well the Dinwalls hold their value.
I've found that a great bass at a great price moves quickly, and that makes it easier to try a bass on for size and not worry about taking a bath if it turns out to be not quite "the one".
That seems like common sense, but lots of guys have a top dollar for a bass they are going to use, so they never try anything in the boutique range. I mean buying it, playing it for an extended period. If it doesn't work out, off it goes.
This in mind, I've been looking for a Super J. A great deal would be super,(no pun intended) but I'm not looking to work somebody who's parting with their baby because of a job loss or financial pinch.
I've been watching the various forums and I'm seeing $1600 -2000, for Super J 4's all in geat shape. Yesterday, ab2 posted his Ebay win, I thought he got a really good deal. Afterburners in the $1500-2000, but I'm a four string guy.
Anybody have any thoughts on Street value for used Super J 4?
The other hot topic seemed to be dealing with Ebay and Paypal. I've had a run of bad luck buying on the bay, but after a long break I've set up some searches to watch for Dingwalls. I'll be a bit more cautious about checking out sellers before I push the Paypal button, and if it doesn't sound solid I'd bail rather than trying to retrieve my paypal payment. (That takes about two to three weeks if there is no back and forth squabbling. Its still a hassle, and not much fun.)
As a Ebay seller, I think the Paypal option works great. 3%? I can't even think about dealing with a problem buyer, check kite, or flake for that. I ship when the payment hits my account. Its still a leap of faith to send $1500 to someone's email instantly, and hope for the shipment, but at least I know the protection has worked for me in the past.
Talkbass is my usual hunting ground, but I'm now willing to scope the 'Bay again. Better luck next time, right?
Thanks, looking forward to everybodies feedback, and, I'm sorry if I'm stepping in it by asking...
For the record, I've never owned a new bass, and probably never will.
