The other piece of tape just says "12", I'll be adding cheaters up to C on the G string, you pretty much need those notes.
I've got a buddy who wants to get rid of his German bow for cheap, and it's a local deal, so I can try it. I'm pretty sure I want the French but it won't hurt to try both. There is a local string instructor so I can get a lesson or two just on the bow and basics.
I'll check out the Simandl book from the library, right now the Rufus Reid and Ray Brown's book is keeping me busy. I'm a non reader, so it's painful, but I always wanted to be able to read, and this is a long road.
I was working up in Seattle last week and we got down to Pioneer Square for some Cajun at the New Orleans. I got to see Clarence Acox's Heritage jazz band with Phil Sparks on bass. Very nice playing, and really cool arco soloing. Also, good etouffee, red beans and rice, and corn bread.
I'm trying to keep the whole thing on the cheap, since if and when this bass moves on, I'll need bucks for another, and DB's can cost big bucks.
Here's a quandry: If the DB thing works, would I sell a Dingwall or two to get a nice upright?
