I've just received my new Dingwall Super J 5 from Bass San Diego. I'm absolutely amazed by the weight, balance, design, neck feel, tonal variation of this bass. I'll be getting to know this bass for some time, of course, and I'm sure I'll continue to be surprised by what I discover. I can definitely see purchasing a Super J 4 string when I can afford one; hopefully in the not too distant future. My Fenders and Warwicks are now up for sale ... I really don't see playing anything else at this point. Ok, I'm keeping my 2005 Fender Jazz 1975 RI but the others are on the block :). Dan (Phoenix, Arizona)

Well, it took me long enough to find the upload function! I hope the picture appears well enough. Have I smudged up every fret yet? I've had the bass 6 hours now :) [attachment=0:2cjrpph0]dingwall_superJ5.jpg[/attachment:2cjrpph0]

I also want a pic of that amp setup. Looks like a nice Markbass rig.

Thanks fellas ... I'm almost (almost!) wishing that my kids were with their mom this weekend; I want some quality time with the new bass :) The Markbass rig is quite nice but I have to admit; I'm not sure that I'll stay with it. I have not abused the head/rig in any way and the (TA501) head just died one day for no apparent reason. I had to send it to be repaired (couldn't do it myself) and I was without an amp for about 3 weeks. It was apparently a resistor and a tube (same time, may be a cause/effect). So I would be cautious if you're playing gigs and don't have a back-up; I've never had a bass rig fail on me before so I'm reluctant to recommend the TA501 head. Hopefully my experience was an anomaly. Dan

You're right! My seven year old daughter is the singer and my 13 year old son is the producer. But unfortunately, they're more interested in dancing to the Wii right now so I get to stare at my bass until they go home Sunday :). Actually, I just got 20 minutes on the Ding at very low volume. Gotta snag it when you can! Seriously though ... I've been thinking about bass design for 35 years; I can tell you some interesting stories. I'm very very impressed with this string-based-scale approach and I'm very curious to know what the mathematical calculus is behind the fanned fret approach (sorry, I'm an Engineer). But for right now, I'm just going to play the gorgeous thing and enjoy ... before the arthritis in my hands gets too much worse.

Hey all ... I came on to reply to a message and thought I'd leave an update ... I absolutely love my SJ5 ... I had some situations that almost had me sell the thing to raise cash but survived those little hiccups. I would love to have had a SJ4 as well but couldn't afford that so bought a MusicMan Sterling and that has satisfied my 4 string thirst for now. I got rid of the Markbass rig because it sucked to be honest ... and replaced it with Mesa Boogie as I should have done in the first place ... M9 Carbine and Powerhouse 1200. I also picked up a 4 ohm 800 watt Boogie 2x15 and a Genz Benz GBE 600 (from a friend of mine) so I have two rigs now. I gotta tell you guys about Genz Benz .. I was always unwilling to even try one out (assumed it was 2nd tier) ... but it's an amazing amp .. I absolutely recommend Genz Benz after playing this GBE 600; I would buy their 1200 watt head if I needed one at some point. Regards ... and Happy New Year! Dan

Dan[/quote:wkpzn197] Hey Dan, no need for the Genz Benz intro here. I've been rocking my ABII through a Genz rig for over 2 years now and haven't looked back. I had a GBE 1200 and while I loved it, I hated carrying it! Now I use a Streamliner 900 which does 900 watts into my 4 ohm genz Uber 410 and it only weighs 6 pounds!
