I may get over this, but I'm thinking of selling my ABII - you know the one! - and getting a Combustion (an Matt Black/Rosewood F/B takes my fancy) - I still need a Dingwall!. Bottom line is I could really do with the money... Haven't tried a Combustion so would be interested in hearing thoughts from any Dingwallians who've tried both...

What? No  Maybe you should see if any C-bass owners in the UK would be willing to give you their Cs to try. They might if you let them try your AB-II, heh.

The Cbass is a great bass, but I don't see why anybody would give up an ABII like yours for one, unless the need for money is the deciding factor. Want to trade for my Cbass? :) Mark

The Combustion and ABII are not in the same league. Unless you [i:26i4zdi0]really[/i:26i4zdi0] need the money - I mean [i:26i4zdi0]really, really[/i:26i4zdi0] need the money - I'd stick with the ABII.

Start looking around the house - find 100 things you can make $10 on, etc. Sell those.

Yeah I know, "don't do it", but it's just a lump of wood & electronics, right? There is a shop near me that stocks Dingwalls, so if they have any C basses in, I'll definitely check them out - if the tone's my kind of thing and the neck feels right too... who knows? (Maybe a CAG with black hardware will tempt me - not a straight swop though Mark - I'm not that daft! 8) )

I don't see how you wouldn't be just as emotional over a '61. Have you seen prices lately? No, not a straight trade. I wouldn't insult you by asking such. Can you post some pix? Mark

I do tend to agree with Mark and others on this one - the grass isn't always greener on the other side. In this case though, a CAG Combustion is much "greener" Mark will love an ABII and his Combustion seems right up your alley. As long as these two great basses stay in the forum family, I say go for it

Mark[/quote:2e25yq63] I did have a pang when the Jazz went, but I got a very good price for it 8) Also, it couldn't do what I needed it to do and... it wasn't a 5-string! Anyway, enough about strange basses with parallel frets... here are some pics of The Grizzly, so-called because of its Bearclaw Maple top:

Did this conundrum ever resolve? Not to jump on anyone, but if you want a Combustion I have a Natual one. I love it and the only way I would give it up is if I some how could step up the Dingwall line. Just reading random posts and it was something Sheldon said to look for. Really great looking After burner..... Do you ever catch yourself playing the soundtrack to Top Gun? Highway to the danger zone....... Sorry just couldn't help it.

Played a CAR/Maple recently and totally loved the look and feel of the maple f/b. The tone was a big ear-opener too - no way is the Combustion a cut-price sounding Dingwall! Of course being in Europe is dangerous when a Dingwall might be for sale. Chances are, it'll be sucked into the Dingwall Vortex over Athens!
