Only pickup shell sizes differ, they are the same pickups on the inside. And no-one mentioned finish! ABZs have no tops and are not as glossy.

Yes. I forgot about the top on the Ab1. The pics really do not do this bass justice. They are just cell phone pics. I wish I had a better camera to try and get a better representation. btw... does anyone know why the Abz has a different shell for the pups? Is it just for looks?

Here's a side-by-side comparo of a current ABZ and ABII: [img]break%20enabled%20[/url:3h0uime5] him to[/img] Here's one with a somewhat older (#4012) ABI: [img][/url:3h0uime5] [/img] The flame-top on the ABI is optional, though I suspect most are ordered with it (maybe Dingwall Sales can confirm?) since it's so beautiful. Bass Northwest had a non-top natural ABI in awhile back, which sounded terrific, though it looked a bit plain by comparison. Pretty instrument, Bean639! Welcome to the forum!

Yes I suspect 85-90% of all ABIs sold had the AAAAA Flame Maple tops. With that in mind this year we made the AAAAA Flame top standard on the 4, 5, and 6-string ABIs. Interesting to add that in the past couple of years ABI sales slowed due to the ABZ and ABII selling well. As a result we decided to open the options list for future ABI customers. We now offer the X-Top package (previously reserved for just ABII), active upgrade (EMG 2-band, magnetic battery compartment, push/pull), and blacked-out head and heel as options.

Nice Bean! I like the natural with the wenge. It makes for a nice contrast. Congrats! And rather than spend money on a camera, spend it on some photo lessons - you'll get far better results. Those photos you took are fine. If you're looking for less grain and more detail in the photos, grab a lamp or better still, take the bass outside in the daytime. Photos need photons. Oh - and nice bass! :D

This is a copy and paste of what I just posted on talkbass. I thought there might be some interest here too. My band, The Dismissed, recently did a quick recording as a trial for a new studio. We picked our most straight forward and simple song since our goal was to test the new studio. Fair warning... Its a straight up rocker with very "screamy" vocals. I'm sharing this with talkbass to not only shamelessly promote my band, The Dismissed. , but also to show what a Dingwall ABZ is capable of in a Rock/Metal setting. I do want to point out that my ABZ is slightly different in that it has a Wenge fingerboard. Due to the very high BPM, this is the only song that I play with a pick. The setup goes like this. Dingwall ABZ 5 < Darkglass BK7 < Mesa BB750 < Protools. I play Circle K strings (.130 traditional) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTuPS05CCjc&noredirect=1 Enjoy!
