Today I got the date for the audition from one of 2 music colleges I applied to in europe.
I'll be staying in germany (cologne) for a few weeks, around may/late june. The main subject audition is being held on 6th of june.

I also applied to a college in the netherlands(rotterdam), but I haven't received a date yet.

The ABZ will be coming with me for the trip :)

Good luck with your audition Ivan. I've seen your video's, it should be a no brainer on their part for your admission.

Man, I'm so angry right now.
Just got a confirmation stating that I passed the pre-selection stage of the college in the netherlands, but my audition date is 8th may.

There's almost no chance for me to get my visa & plane ticket in less than 2 weeks :(

I asked if they could change the date to june (I was informed auditions were held in may and june), but it is not possible because bass guitar auditions are only in may.

What? That's just not cool.

Things like this do happen. I got my Swiss scholarship results months after having to have made a decision on where I wanted to go, which basically eliminated Switzerland as an option at the time of making the decision. Also I got to another university which I couldn't afford without a job, and I got a job on a university project, but they couldn't tell me how much I would have been paid until the very day of the to-accept deadline.

I hope that you've made a connection with some of the faculty there. If they liked you, maybe they'll ask the comitee members to make an exception... If they're the least bit reasonable they'll make an exception if they're interested in having you there, since something that was obviously out of your hands restrains you. For example, I've graduated almost two years ago from my undergrad and am still to receive a diploma. I don't even know what my official title is - is it a computer science major? engineering? don't know. This was a major hurdle as I couldn't really prove that I've graduated, but I got accepted to several places because I made a connection with the faculty and they wanted me there.

You can also go to the embassy, maybe they have a speedy process available or something. You've been there quite recently so the background check shouldn't take too long as they've done one.

Anyway, contact all the people you've talked to in Netherlands and ask for help, and be sure to see your options at the embassy. Who knows what may come out of it.

Or maybe you can audition over the web. Not sure how much they'd like that; but if you have someone over there who can set you up on that side without bothering the comitee for too long, maybe they'd be willing to give it a shot. Again, assuming they remember you and want you there, understand and agree that you could not have possibly showed up on time, and if you beg them enough.

But people are reasonable and compassionate, and remember that they make their business on having good people around. If you've made an impact, you just need to make them know that you're in trouble and they'll look for a way: it's not only a favor to you, it's a wise business decision for them too.

Like Bocete suggested, I would not give up on the possibility to get a visa and plane ticket in time. I don't know what the visa requirement is, but there certainly is time to buy a planet ticket.

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions/comments, guys.

I sent an e-mail on friday to the central students administration explaining the whole thing, still no reply.

My dad knows someone from foreign affairs in holland, hopefully he/she can do something about my visa or contact the university to help me change the date.

As far a my audition in germany goes, I'll be playing 3 songs with a combo the college provides.
I decided on playing Summertime, Bessie's blues and an arrangement I made of "Gerudo Valley" (from the video game "The legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time")

Cheers!

Hey guys, sorry for replying after so long.

I didn't get the visa for the netherlands but I did get the one for Germany. I'm in Cologne right now. My audition is on wednesday.

Today I had a lesson with the bass professor from the college I applied to. I'm very happy right now, he told me my skills were definitely good for my age and even if I don't make it (only 1 maybe 2 people get accepted for bass each year), that I should try again next year and apply to other colleges as well.

Now I feel much more relaxed as I know I'm on the right path :)

Thank you for the kind words!
Ivan
