Sheldon I have a SJ and it’s amazing! Opting for a custom SJ build via one of your dealers.
1. Since you do not chamber any more is it possible to get a lighter weight alder body blank? Looking for 8.5 lbs total weight or less. If not possible then I’ll go with swamp ash.
2. Wenge neck + board good combo for alder or ash body? Other recommendations?

If you want to know about Wengé, think old-school Warwicks (before 1999, I think). I have a '98 Corvette FNA, with the Wengé neck (Ash body, thin Maple deck) and I love the combination, good bottom-end with a lot of definition and clarity. Because Wengé is so hard, it has a very nice brilliance in the top-end. I'm a big fan of Wengé necks.
Downside is, these necks are very heavy and especially with a light body, the neck will have the tendency to pull down. Personally, I dont have a problem with it, I place my LH thumb on the lower part of the neck, to support it and raise it to my desired playing height, but if you have another LH positioning, it might be something to consider.
