I really dig the traditional look of a pickguard, and was wondering how many of us might be interested in a pickguard to fit an AB1 or ABZ. I'm thinking an accessory sold separately by Dingwall. If I'm not the only one, maybe the idea could grow legs. My brain wheel is turning (can't you hear the rat panting).......pickguard design contest?......or mimick of the Combustion? Waddyaz think?

Here's what I would do: talk Sheldon into making a one-off for your ABI. You can then post the results for others to contemplate. I can't imagine my AB with one, but it would be nice to see how it turns out anyway. Mark

It's really mainly a consideration for AB1s with plain tops, older ones with solid tops, or possibly ABZs. In my mind's eye a natural AB1 with a Baltic amber 'guard would be quite nice. I can't see one on my amberburst at all.

Methinks the denizens of Dingwall have spoken. If I can find a used AB in a finish that calls for it maybe I'll make it my own project and report back.

I am not sure a pickguard would even fit over the butt end of the neck that extends down to the neck pickup. I also think the majority of the ABIs have a flame top, so you wouldn't really want to cover that up. At least I know I wouldn't.

Lookwise, even the AB-Z top is beautiful enough to make any pickguard obsolete IMO. You could put a pickguard on a Z or a Prima but that's plain sacrilege. On the other hand, the #1 Voodoo looks good with it's pickguard, so I don't know..

Sheldon's basses are too pretty to cover up! On a practical note, doesn't work with the neck heel for me.
