Nice purchase, I reckon it was very cheap, given the good condition and quality of woods/finish, etc. I was just ogling that last night and definitely would have pulled the trigger if it was a fiver...but then again, who wouldn't! So how does it sound???? Hurry man, plug it in!!! EG

buffalo-- Congrats. I know that bass well. I tried buying it from Joey G music emporium for 3 yrs in a row (03-06). Joey ended up being a bass collector instead of a retailer and wanted double what you paid.The bass has almost no wear on it and its been sitting in a case since it was sold to Joey. Believe me you got a great deal. Infact the bass is magical. IIRc that bass was Sheldons fave becuase it was a mixture of the perfect piece of ash w/ the perfect neck, etc, etc. You know when the stars align kind of thing. So if you want upgrade the electronic package, but honestly play it alot first, its punchy as heck w/ great sustain. Again your lucky I didn't see it this week. Enjoy frank

Thanks for all of the info guys. It makes me feel better, especially since I didn't realize until this morning I was going to be dinged for NY state sales tax of $170. Mark, I actually just happened to be on ebay last night looking at some other stuff and I was on my searches page and just happened to manually do my Dingwall search and up it popped. I already had it purchased before I got my email alerts, which normally come for me around 12AM. I miss out on stuff sometimes if it gets listed before the search emails go out at night. This was one of those serendipity things. I was surprised that it lasted for almost 6 hours, which made me start second guessing the purchase. And I will play it for a good while first before upgrading it because I won't be able to afford new Mach3 Pups for a while anyway! And thanks for the info Frank. It makes me feel good to know that I did OK and that the bass has some Mojo. That's exactly what I wanted in a four banger. Something that I felt was equal to my ABII-5 in punch and growl. I play mostly rock right now and I am also the lead singer on most of our songs, so it's nice to have a four to go to on those songs. Also, my ABII-5 has a very modern meaty growly sound which cuts through like a knife, which I absolutely love, but it doesn't go with everything.

BTW Mark, Gorgeous Z3 you got yourself there! And I can see why you would think the Z2 I just purchased as cute!

I am close to being GAS free. The FRB Z3 is taking a long time to explore and I have couple of other Dingwalls on the way that deserve some time too. Having said that... I am not DAS free

No actually, I really did think about it from your perspective and was glad I caught it before you, because I figured that would certainly have gone through your mind if it went through mine. What kind of strings are people using on their Zs? I assume the standard Dingwall Voodoos fit, but are the scale lengths on the Zs the same as the ABs, or are they a bit shorter because of the 22 vs. 24 frets? I posted this over in Strings, but haven't heard from anyone yet, so I thought I would fish for answers over here as well.

Bob- The Dingwall 4 bangers have the same scale as a 5 string, minus one string. i.e., the E string is 36.25". So honestly you prolly could use whatever set of string you wanted as long as they are long or Xl. My SuperJ 4 banger has the exact same scale (36.25), and I've tried a bunch of strings on it (remember mine is the prototype and different than production). oh right i also wanted to mention -how extremely light, and responsive that bass was-it just killed

Thanks Mr. Bass. Thanks Frank. Glad to hear that the Z2s have the same scale lengths as the ABIIs even though they have a couple less frets. Well, she's on a Fed Ex vehicle and out for delivery. I need to get some work done so I can bail for the rest of the afternoon once she arrives. Of course, knowing my luck with Fed Ex lately, it will arrive at the latest possible time and there will be something damaged by them.

Well, she has arrived and she is far more beautiful then those pics I posted from the Ebay listing. I kind of expected a few dings that weren't disclosed based on the price, and I was right. It looks like this bass took a nasty spill off a stand onto its backside. The seller did post a pic of the dingies on the back around the neck bolts. Nearby, there is a small dent on the back that doesn't break the finish that you couldn't see given the no doubt purposely poorly taken pics. Also a small ding by the top of the horn. Otherwise, from the front, the top looks pristine. There are three small dents on the back of the neck. Not enough to feel while playing and only one is at all significant when running your hand over the neck. None of them come close to breaking the neck finish, so no biggee. A little wax would probably make at least two them smooth and the other hard to detect. Maybe I can have the neck refinished some day. But, I was expecting this, especially when the seller offered to (and did) pay the state tax on the transaction when I complained! So I'm not at all disappointed. She is in good hands now! My first reaction in holding her was wow, you can really feel the upgrade in quality. Not that my ABs aren't great quality, but the Zs are clearly a cut above. And she weighs NOTHING! Just playing her unplugged I can tell how awesome she will sound plugged in. So resonant and the neck is lightening fast. She should be scary smooth with a new set of strings and a set-up. Now I'm off to my rehearsal space to play her through my rig. Can't wait. One thing I'm pretty sure of. There will be a near mint ABI-4 in Whale Pool Blue coming on the market in a week or two. Much as I wish I could keep two fours, I just can't do it.
