I figure this new model deserves it's own thread. Here is the final version of the ABZ. We are using the new Combustion shells, however the pickups are FD-3's. Combustion pickups might be an option for aftermarket mods. This one weighs 8lbs 3oz and is off to Bass Northwest today.
Hi Sheldon. Love your basses. How long of a wait time is it if I order a ABZ 5 in whalepool blueburst?[/quote:1fpmaj0t] 3-4 months. We're itching to try a WPB finish :)

Satin WPB is really going to be something. I can't wait to see it. Until then, I'l continue staring into the glossy depths of my ABI's finish.

Hi Sheldon I just cancelled the layaway that I had with Bass Northwest for the ABZ 5 string in honeyburst to special order an ABZ 5 in whalepool burst with a maple fingerboard. So here is your chance to try making one. Bass Northwest told me 4 to 6 months build time. Is that correct? I am looking forward to getting it.

Yes, 4-6 months from the time they place the order with us. I'll make sure to post photos when it's done.

Hi Jim Glad you got the bass I left behind. I plan on ordering one of the same in Whale Pool Burst. How does the one you got sound? It was a hard decision to let it go but I know I will have one soon. Enjoy it.

It is a great bass David, and sounds tremendous through both my small and larger rigs. I prefer passive electronics, and these are designed so well that between the selector and tone knobs you can get quite a range of sounds. I also much prefer the satin finish. I think the ABZ line is a really inspired decision on the part of Sheldon and company. You will love yours, i have no doubt.
Hi Jim Glad you got the bass I left behind. I'm a minimalist at heart and I have a real soft spot for its' elegant simplicity. I haven't had batteries in my Z3 for a week or 2-Dingwall's don't need a pre for my likes at all. I bet they ABZ is even lighter than other Dingers as well.

Yes big congrats, you will love it. Gorgeous appearance and "elegant simplicity" is exactly right. My ABZ is 3oz. over 8 pounds. It feels great. DavidJ- congrats- absolutely stunning bass. Simple and i would bet punchy, too bad Sheldon never offered AB-Z when FD1 pickups were in vogue. No offense, but it still cracks me up everytime i see Berlin Mass as your address. I figured who in Berlin Mass would have ever heard of a Dingwall- Its good to know that some people think big in that town

Berlin's a nice small town. And not too many people around this area know of Dingwall. I hope to change that. :D Davio we have to hook up. I will have this baby tomorrow. I will report.

Got it today. It's awesome! My only complaint is the B string is dead. Seems like the E through G strings are brand new but the B string is old. I am going to contact Sheldon and see if I can get a replacement. This one weighs according to the box 7 and 1/2 lbs. I have not weighed it yet on my digital scale. It balances beautifully. So far it gets a thumbs up.

In the mean time, try adding one turn to the string to tighten up the winds. Have someone loosen off the tuner enough so that you can pull the ball end out of the bridge, rotate the ball counter-clockwise 1 turn and tune back up holding the ball to keep it from unwinding. That should smarten it up.

Thanks Sheldon. I sent you a pm. I will try to do what you suggest. I will post later on the results. Manchester is about 1 hour from me. Must be something about us Mass bass players. We know quality when we see it.
