Hi Sheldon,
Today I discovered that the BluEQube toggle switch is making scratchy noises on my ABII-5 (older model made 4/10/05 with OBP-1, FD-3 pickups, BluEQube switch). It usually happens when I flip it to the ON position. Any idea what might be the problem? I use it fairly often during sets switching between fingerstyle / slap. Maybe I just need to squirt some Caig's DeOxit cleaner in there, figured I would ask here first. When I engage the switch on (towards the pickups) if I don't push it all the way, sometimes it goes into an "in between" mode and I lose volume. I have to flip it a few times back and forth and make sure it's solidly set to the ON position. Thanks in advance...It's not my amp either because my drummer heard it through his in-ear mix and it can through FOH & monitor mixes. At first I thought it was a speaker cone which really freaked me out but it starting turning knobs and flipping switches on the bass and discovered it on the BluEQube.

I'll get Jeff to chime in here if he has any further thoughts. I recommend a good quality contact cleaner. We use Nu-trol brand. 1/2 drop where the switch bat enters the threaded neck. Work the switch back and forth 10-20 times. It may require a repeat procedure if you don't get 100% the first time.
Never got around to applying the DeOxit cleaner to the switch, because the scratchy sound went away. Well, today during rehearsal the noise came back. I started to move the switch back and forth and then lost volume completely. I turn off the preamp and volume is back, so obviously i need new batteries. I load up two fresh 9Vs and wham....back in business. However, the scratchy noise came back for just a bit and then went away (maybe 3 or 4 seconds worth).
On a side note, call me crazy but my tone changed a bit with a fresh set of 9v's. A bit more sizzle. Is this true that a 100% fresh battery can sort of "overdrive" the preamp? Call me crazy but my tone was different (not in a bad way but just different).

The preamp [i:2p7re20e]can[/i:2p7re20e] be overdriven but I can't really comment on if that's what you're hearing or not. I'd be more inclined to believe that the fresh batteries were pumping the signal out back at the level where it was supposed to be and that your amp has been adjusted to compensate for the dieing batteries so the change caused your amp to be driven harder.
New batteries can make a world of difference.

The preamp [i:243edejg]can[/i:243edejg] be overdriven but I can't really comment on if that's what you're hearing or not. I'd be more inclined to believe that the fresh batteries were pumping the signal out back at the level where it was supposed to be and that your amp has been adjusted to compensate for the dieing batteries so the change caused your amp to be driven harder.

Thx for the info. The gain and volume settings did not change on my amp head. I'll probably have to break down and just squirt some contact cleaner into the switches.
