Once burned but after time to undergo a senior moment or 2 I plunged back into the 37" scale by ordering a quilt tp AB1 from Ed. Not a great experience so far-it arrived with the neck pup producing no sound at all from the B and E strings, but normal volume and tone from the other 3?? To my eye it was correctly mounted. In addition, after naively not discussing the shipping charges beforehand, they dinged me 125. to send it to NY ???? I called-got the sales "associate who has no authority to do anything. The sales manager immediately told me he didn't know why I was charged so much for shipping (he said it should've been 70, which would still be around 50% more than I've ever paid). BUT he appropriately offered to send me out another one immediately, without waiting for this one-that pleasantly surprised me. The sageburst was a liitle too turquoise for me in person anyway so I chose the blueburst. I didn't want to play it much, lest I scratch and buy it. But the scale felt fine for fingerstyle. and the lowest half octave sounded like a return to paradise. I'll post pics when the blue (hopefully fully functional) one arrives. I must also admit it still irks me that a bass for over 2 Gs doesn't come with straplocks.....to be continued.......

Sorry to hear of your difficulties with Ed (Roman?). The Indigoburst on quilt would look cool (mine is on alder). Got a pic to share? Knock it off with those senior moments, man! Ken

The heppy ending to the Ed Roman story: The bass sales mgr sent out a replacement AB1 Blueburst the next day and I received it 2 days ago. After admitting to me that I was overcharged 50$ for the initial shipping, he threw in a 20" Monster cable. It would've been more appropriate to simply credit my card, but he said (today when I called to confirm his receipt of the return) that he wanted to get it out the same day and didn't have anyone available to approve the credit. A "soft" explanation but it could've been way worse in my eyes and I'm sure I could've returned the cable if I insisted, but I can actually use it :-) He said the green one was returned to Dingwall for an autopsy. Anyway, the bass is killer, as was my last AB1. The happy news is that for whenever I want the shorter scale I now have the fanned 32-35" CB, and I think I can toggle back and 4th very easily now :-) Maybe my previous difficulties were in my head; methinks yes. At our garage band practice yesterday we opened up with Proud Mary and I took the chorus down to the low D on the B string. Our 24 year-old lead guitarist (the rest of us are 35, 44 (me) and 61), just laughed after the tune and said "That is just ill! Where the $%^%&& did you find that thing?" I believe he likes it :-). I'll try and post pics of the quilt later.

Congrats on the new AB1! Glad things worked out -- those long distance purchases are always a bit of a nail biter for me. Let us know how you settle in on the 37" neck and how it sounds compared to the SJ. I look forward to some pics. John
