Step One: Acquire a fabulous AB-II bass. Walnut with Cocobolo top. Check. Step Two: See what Santa Sheldon has in his workshop up North. Walnut or Jatoba... and the winner is...Jatoba/Wenge (epoxy). Should be a nice match with the Cocobolo. Check. Stay tuned.

No dead spots. You won't be disappointed.

I'd like to see a pic of that. What does Jatoba look like?

Me too (pics). Here's what I'm looking at. Reddish brown/orange. Not as dark as bubinga. Extremely hard and dense. Lined wenge fingerboard with epoxy coating. I think this baby is going to sing! Won't be light! Here is a photo (mineral spirits only). Will pick up the lighter colors of the Cocobolo (seen now with the current fretted neck.) Should darken with age.

Final Product! Sorry for the poor camera phone pics...but you get the idea. Colors are a bit darker than they appear. Plays and sounds incredible! Thanks to Sheldon and crew for a great fretless neck/bass. I'll take your word on the tone and say that the Jatoba sure works aesthetically!
