Hey, I have been drooling over Dingwalls off and on for awhile and decided to finally join. Some TBers may recognize my name, I post in the effects section way more than anywhere else though. So anyways, I am really interested in trying a fan-fret bass. Obviously a Combustion is the gateway. Currently my main gigging bass is a Big Al SSS 4. I have owned 5ers but it has been awhile. Do you guys think I would be biting off a lot to chew switching to fan-frets and a 5 string at once. I am in college so keeping the Big Al and buying the Combustion are not really an option curently. I really gig about 2-3 times a month lately because school is getting busy, so if I plan right I can have a bit of time to adjust. Also, I tend to like modding things. How good of a modding platform is a Combustion? From simple stuff like new tuners, pickups, to parallel/series switches & active/passive switches? Oh yeah, could a Dingwall bridge from another model be installed easily on a Combustion? I have a Roland VB-99 and curently use a Roland GK-3B pickup. Is there room for the GK-3B between the bridge pickup and the bridge? Thanks for any help. edit: I realize that the v2 Combustion has an active/passive switch

The gig went great! We had a bunch of people dancing, just a good time. Bass players and other musicians were tripping out on the Dingwall though. I guess I should expect that a bit from now on. The only pics I saw from the gig weren't that good. I'll check for a best of the worst. No, my girl is in Maui until this next weekend...she is so lucky. How have you been DattaG? Busy?

I see this trend everywhere. I was playing parallel frets and divorced the whole crew of them when i tried Dingwall. Fanfrets are the future, the warwicks, Ibanez and fenders of the world will just never admit it. They keep producing lovely wood basses and saying , "here isn't this nice". But with Dingwall you get the wood AND the electronics AND the fanrets AND everyone drooling over the instrument. Win Win Win Win.
How have you been DattaG? Busy?[/quote:3lpl2h1y] So sorry, thought I'd answered this before. Yes, very busy. Just did a gig last night here in Lochem, in The Netherlands that was awesome. Last week we played in Birmingham, which was also great. Next week in Yosemite for a presentation and performance there, then Portland, OR, then Melbourne. Stopped by Bass Direct in Warwick (between London & B'ham) and what a great set of Dingwalls he (Mark) has there!!! He sold me on some new Genz Benz stuff. Recently got some vids back from Miami last summer: http://GrooversMusic.com
Details on the Portland, OR gig please![/quote:1h9zk7vc] Yikes! Thanks for asking SingleMalt, and [b:1h9zk7vc]SO [/b:1h9zk7vc]sorry not to respond earlier. I apologize for my unintentional rudeness. For some reason I seemed to have stopped receiving email notices when someone posts to a thread I'm on. The gig started today, and it was at the Grand Hotel at Bridgeport in Tigard, running through next Wednesday. Music was today and will be again Tuesday. The music part is not open to the public (even bass players), as it is something we offer for our specific workshops. Here are some videos of us doing the music to one of our presentations in Miami this past summer: http://GrooversMusic.com
