Kaylon Disiewich Interview

Bio: I have been playing bass for 16 years and playing in local bands since 2007. Before I joined any bands, I played roadie for a few years around town and across the country. I was recruited by my instructor to play in his band, Abscission. I continued to play with them up until the album release and hiatus in January 2018. From 2007 to 2012, this time was spent booking shows, playing as a fulltime member in 5 bands, playing some fill in gigs around the city, and a month long tour to Ontario and back. The time between 2012 and 2018 was mostly spent preparing and recording 3 albums which were released in January 2018. Since starting a music break in January, I have been focusing on getting my jam spot/studio built. Upon its completion I will be preparing material for a new original project.

Location: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

My Bass: I have a 2014 5 string Afterburner HS with a bubinga body, wenge contrast layer, and redwood burl top. The neck and fretboard are wenge and I have a Glockenklang preamp (wired passive and the volume pull engages the preamp). I swapped the pickups to FDV’s.

Day gig:
Locomotive Engineer and Salesman at Long & Mcquade

Bands & Gigs: Abscission, Before & Apace, Delusions Of, The Divided, Ointment, Suffer The Children

Gear: I have enough gear to fill a museum but my “go to” set up consists of a Mesa/Boogie 400+ head, Mesa/Boogie Powerhouse 4x10 & 2X12 cabinets, Moog Taurus Pedals, Warwick Jonas Hellborg Preamp, Korg DTR-1 Tuner and a Furman P1800-PFR power conditioner. I have too many pedals to list and depending on the gig, a Darkglass Electronics distortion will always make its way onto my board as well as 1 or 2 Russian Big Muff’s.Dr strings, Mono straps and Schaller strap locks.

Why I play a Dingwall: The feel and tone of the instruments are really hard to beat and I have yet to come across another company that has the same quality and quality control. It’s also nice to help support the great people working at the company.

My Dingwall superpower/claim to fame: My heavy-ass “XIII” bass with the inlay on the 13th fret.

My influences: Like my pedals, the list of all my influences is far too long to list but my top 3 would be Ryan Martinie, Justin Chancellor, and John Myung
