William J Eppel

Bill Eppel has been playing bass for over 30 years, and has enthusiastically embraced reggae & its associated bass-centric sub-genres for the past two decades. After a number of years playing in punk, hardcore and goth/industrial bands, Bill shared billing with a number of Jamaican reggae, dub & ska legends which awakened his passion the genre, and started his musical-spiritual journey that continues to this day. Averaging a busy schedule of 100 gigs a year on stages both humble and huge, domestic and international as well as actively recording, he has carved out a reputation for heavy grooves and bedrock consistency. Bill’s current band, Root Shock, uses this foundation as a jumping off point to deftly craft a high energy, wide ranging tapestry of sound including soul, funk and even metal and prog. While having a variety of Dingwall basses, on the road Bill chooses Combustion & NG-3 basses for their dependability, tone, playability and value. The clarity and authority of tone of Dingwall basses translates perfectly in a wide range of venues and while the fanned frets get a lot of attention, every is scrutinized and engineered for success. When Bill was looking to retire his beloved custom Dingwall Z-1 “Rastaburst” from road work, Sheldon suggested trying an NG Combustion…and hundreds of gigs later we can confirm its success.
